Foster Home Licensing Agency Selection

Select the agency you would like to use for taking you through the licensing process.

Connie Maxwell

Serves married couples and single parents who want to foster.Connie Maxwell serves all counties in the Upstate and Midlands regions. Connie Maxwell only licenses non-therapeutic homes. The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training hours are required within 24 months of licensure in order to maintain foster home license. Re-certification training/topics are at the discretion of the foster parent/family

Epworth

Serves married couples and singles who want to foster. The agency serves families from any faith background and training is not faith-based. Epworth serves most counties in the state. Epworth licenses all homes as therapeutic, but serves/places children for families who choose to foster non-therapeutic children. If the situation arises, families may foster siblings in which one or more may be non-therapeutic and/or one or more may be therapeutic. 16 training hours per year are required to maintain the foster home license beyond the initial 2-year licensing period. There are three trainings that are mandatory through Epworth for re-certification training

Growing Homes SE

Works with any individual or family who has a desire to serve children.Growing Home SE serves the entire state. GHSE licenses all homes as therapeutic, but serves/places children for families who choose to foster non-therapeutic children. If the situation arises, families may foster siblings in which one or more may be non-therapeutic and/or one or more may be therapeutic.All GHSE families must complete 32 initial hours of training prior to becoming licensed. In addition, there are other training classes that must be completed pre-licensure above and beyond the 32 hours required for therapeutic foster home licensing. GHSE will advise once

Lutheran

Is affiliated with the Lutheran Church, but serves all families and does not require a statement of faith. Families do not need to be Christian to foster with Lutheran.Lutheran Services Carolina serves the entire state. Lutheran licenses both therapeutic and non-therapeutic homes.  Lutheran will place non-therapeutic children with their therapeutic siblings in a home licensed as therapeutic in order for siblings to remain together.Lutheran TFC (Therapeutic Foster Care) homes require 32 recertification hours to be completed within the 24-month licensing period in order to maintain license. Lutheran non-TFC homes require 30 recertification hours to be completed within the 24-month licensing

Nightlight Foster Care Program

Serves married couples that have been married at least two years and singles over the age of 21 who want to foster. The agency serves families from any faith background and training is not faith-based. Nightlight serves all counties in the Upstate and Midlands except Bamberg and Barnwell. Nightlight licenses all homes as non-therapeutic.The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training are required during the 24-month licensing period. Training topics/scheduling are at the discretion of the family, however, families must be re-certified

Oasis of Hope

Is a Christian-based agency, but works with any individual or family who has a desire to make a difference in a child’s life. Licensure requires no additional training beyond the 24-26 hours of pre-service training, unless specific needs of the child warrant additional instruction.Oasis of Hope serves families statewide and licenses only non-therapeutic homes.Oasis of Hope families must complete 30 hours of recertification training within the 24-month licensing period. Training topics/scheduling are at the discretion of the foster parent/family.

Pinnacle Family Services

Licenses therapeutic and non-therapeutic foster homes and works with anyone 25 or older who has a desire to serve children. Pinnacle Family Services serves families across the state.The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing for non-therapeutic foster home licenses, and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training are required to maintain the non-therapeutic license during the 24-month licensing period. There is additional training required to be licensed as a therapeutic home and the 32 hours of recertification training hours are required during the 2 year licensing period to maintain/renew the

SAFY

Works with families willing to become licensed as a therapeutic foster home. Whenever possible, SAFY will work to keep siblings together in the foster home. Therapeutic homes require 32 recertification hours every two years and a schedule of training topics, dates and times for these hours is provided to the foster family.

SC YAP

Works with any individual or family who has a desire to serve children through foster care. SC YAP serves the entire state. SC YAP licenses all homes as therapeutic, but will place non-therapeutic children with their therapeutic siblings in order for siblings to remain together.  The agency focus is primarily to place teens. 16 training hours per year are required to maintain the foster home license beyond the initial 2-year licensing period. SC YAP does not require daily documentation on non-therapeutic children. Re-certification training/topic selection is at the discretion of the foster parent/family.

South Carolina Mentor

Works with families willing to become licensed to foster children 11 years old or older, in all areas throughout SC. SC Mentor prefers to license all homes as therapeutic, but will also license as non-therapeutic. They will place non-therapeutic children in therapeutic homes if the family prefers to foster non-therapeutic. 30 recertification hours are required every two years for re-licensure for non-therapeutic homes. Therapeutic homes require 32 hours every two years. There is also SC Mentor additional required training for which a schedule will be provided.  Agency will provide more information to family if selected.
