Foster Home Licensing Agency Selection

Select the agency you would like to use for taking you through the licensing process.

Pinnacle Family Services

Licenses regular/non-therapeutic foster homes and works with anyone 25 or older who has a desire to serve children. Pinnacle Family Services serves families in the Upstate and Midlands regions.The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training are required during the 24-month licensing period.

SAFY

Works with families willing to become licensed as a therapeutic foster home. Whenever possible, SAFY will work to keep siblings together in the foster home. Therapeutic homes require 32 recertification hours every two years and a schedule of training topics, dates and times for these hours is provided to the foster family.

South Carolina Mentor

Works with families willing to become licensed to foster children 11 years old or older, in all areas throughout SC. SC Mentor prefers to license all homes as therapeutic, but will also license as non-therapeutic. They will place non-therapeutic children in therapeutic homes if the family prefers to foster non-therapeutic. 30 recertification hours are required every two years for re-licensure for non-therapeutic homes. Therapeutic homes require 32 hours every two years. There is also SC Mentor additional required training for which a schedule will be provided.  Agency will provide more information to family if selected.

Connie Maxwell

Serves married couples and single parents who want to foster.Connie Maxwell serves all counties in the Upstate and Midlands regions. Connie Maxwell only licenses non-therapeutic homes. The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training hours are required within 24 months of licensure in order to maintain foster home license. Re-certification training/topics are at the discretion of the foster parent/family

Lifeline

Serves Christian foster parents and requires families to complete a statement of faith.Lifeline serves Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties. Lifeline conducts its own training and works with families on an individual basis to maintain license once a family is licensed. The agency will provide more information to a family if selected.

Nightlight Foster Care Program

Serves married couples that have been married at least two years and singles over the age of 21 who want to foster. The agency serves families from any faith background and training is not faith-based. Nightlight serves all counties in the Upstate and Midlands except Bamberg and Barnwell. Nightlight licenses all homes as non-therapeutic.The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training are required during the 24-month licensing period. Training topics/scheduling are at the discretion of the family, however, families must be re-certified

CAPA-Child Abuse Prevention Association

Trains and supports families who want to foster. CAPA serves Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties. CAPA only licenses non-therapeutic homes. The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 24-26 hours completed prior to licensing and are completed online. 30 hours of recertification training hours are required within 24 months of licensure in order to maintain foster home license. Re-certification training/topics are at the discretion of the foster parent/family.

The Bair Foundation

Is a Christian therapeutic agency that licenses families for foster children 0-21.  Bair works with therapeutic, medically fragile and special needs foster children.  To serve the needs of DSS, BAIR will place non-therapeutic children as well.  Bair does not discriminate and works with married, single, cohabitating, same sex couples, and all religious backgrounds.  32 recertification hours are required every two years for re-licensure for therapeutic homes.

Thornwell

Thornwell’s foster care program offers standard (non-therapeutic) foster care licensing for those individuals and families who would like to foster children and youth ages 0-21. Thornwell’s dedicated Family Specialists are passionate about licensing, preparing, and supporting families as they welcome children and youth into their homes. Our team uses Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model in coaching foster families to meet the complex needs of children who have experienced trauma. In addition, in certain instances, Thornwell is able to provide on-campus housing for families willing to foster large or multiple sibling groups of all ages.The training hours required to become

NYAP SC

Works to license and support families who want to foster children.National Youth Advocate Program serves Richland Lexington, Sumter, Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties.NYAP licenses all homes as therapeutic, but will place non-therapeutic children with their therapeutic siblings in order for siblings to remain together.  The agency focus is primarily to place teens.The training hours required to become licensed are a total of 32 hours. 16 training hours per year are required to maintain the foster home license beyond the initial 2-year licensing period.
